London: W. Owen, 1754. Hardcover. Very Good. 240, xviii, 14 p. Rebound in 18 cm 1/4 leather with marble boards, new endpapers, no half-title. Small stain at top of title page. Pages clean. Text unmarked. The new binding wonderfully protects the contents which remain in near fine condition. William King (1685-1763) was an academic and poet with Jacobite sympathies. Those sympathies are readily apparent in this collection of essays beautifully rebound for the collector's bookshelf. A footnote on pages 81-89 includes "The Answer, by Dr. Swift", a poem described as "never published in any edition of the Dean's works. The answer is to Robert Lindsay's "Paulus," also included. 2 page publisher's book list at rear.
