Catalogue of Books Printed in the XVth Century now in the British Museum
British Museum, London, 1963. Atlas folio. Together 12 vols. in total: Parts I-X (10 vols). Facsimiles (2 vols). Original boards, cloth spines. Minimal defects to repart, save the back covers of Vols. 1 and 2 are scuffed, that of Vol. VI bumped, stains on front cover of Facs. Vol. 1, otherwise in VERY GOOD condition, the text free from blemish and all markings. NOT ex-library! Excellent copy of the preferred edition, being the 1963 lithographic reprint of the British Museum's OWN WORKING COPY, bearing corrections and additions by none other than Victor Scholderer, a towering incunabulist, and others. "Since the appearance in 1908 of the first volume of BMC the work has been relied on as one of the main authorities on the earliest printing in Europe. Its coverage of early printing from the European countries in which the new technique was successively introduced provides not only extensive bibliographical descriptions, but introduces the material with an analysis of the development of printing in the relevant areas." (Hes & de Graaf). As is stated in Vol. I of this 1963 lithographic reprint: "Complete sets of this catalogue in the original edition have long been difficult and expensive to acquire, and the present photolithographic reprint is intended to make Parts I-VIII [sic] and the accompanying plate-volumes generally available at a moderate price. The opportunity has been taken to reproduce the Museum's working copy, which contains numerous manuscript annotations by various hands, the majority being by Dr. Victor Scholderer.
