Churui Gafu, or A Beautiful Album of Japanese Insects by Kono Baireis Son
Kyoto: Unsodo, 1910. Morimoto Tokaku (1887-1948), the artist of this illustrated book of insects, was the eldest son of celebrated artist Kono Bairei. He produced Churui Gafu after his father, who had planned to publish an album of insect illustrations, failed to finish the project. The book records 47 species of insects familiar and loved by Japanese people, including butterflies, cicadas, dragonflies, and moths, in 24 colour woodblock-printed illustrations. Original wrappers, with some light scrapes. Minor stains. Otherwise very good. 1 v., complete. 26 leaves. 24.3 x 16.5 cm. Text in Japanese. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
