1715. POPE, Alexander. THE ILIAD OF HOMER. Translated by Mr. Pope. London: W. Boyer for Bernard Lintott, 1715[-1720]. First folio edition. Six volumes bound as three in contemporary full speckled calf, with gilt spines, gilt frames on sides, gilt inner dentelles, a.e.g. Armorial bookplate of the Earl of Mexborough on front pastedown in each volume. 11 3/8 x 7 1/4 in. Collated against Rothschild 1573, this copy is nearly complete, lacking only the half-title and final blank in Volume 1. Otherwise all text and engraved plates and maps are present, though the preliminary matter in Volume 1 is bound in a different order and the plate placement throughout differs slightly.
