The glamorous city of Constantinople is seen in the background. Antoine Ignace Melling was an artist and architect. He lived in Constantinople for 18 years where he studied the Ottoman Court. He was imperial architect to Ottoman Sultan Selim III and Hatice Sultana and later landscape painter to the Empress Josephine of France.
