First American edition of the abridged version of Locke's "Essay" and the first appearance of the "Essay" in America in any form. viii, [9]-250 pp. 1 vols. 12mo. This abridgment was originally prepared for the use of students by John Wynne, afterwards Bishop of St. Asaph and of Bath and Wells. This was done with Locke's approval and published in 1696. This was well received by scholars, including Thomas Hearne, and was soon translated into French and Italian. Attig, John C.
