These 5500 proverbs are arranged alphabetically by subject and accompanied by Garnier's Latin translation of each. Protestant, Garnier emigrated to Germany and taught French at Giessen then Leipzig. In good condition (slightly browned, minor worming to six corners, a small spot on three leaves), bookplates of Sir William Stirling Maxwell and de Guinzbourg.
