Burns, J.E.
Adventures in Wildest Africa. The Stirring Narrative of a Big Game Hunting Expedition in Equatorial Africa, illustrated with Third Dimension Pictures taken at the time
Walker & sons, London, 1949. Sole edition. Map, 30 3-D images. 24 pp. 8vo. TO BE VIEWED WITH 'WONDER SPECTACLES'. By turn horrifying and hilarious, this lurid publication shows the "strangely fascinating world of Central Africa that calls for 3rd Dimension Pictures without which you cannot behold the thrilling wild life of that region in its overpowering spell." These images provide an admirable and novel complement the text. This is the only big game book we've seen to include 3D images. Burns' expedition departed Mombasa for Nairobi, then travelled by train across the Rift Valley to Londiani, less than forty miles from Lake Victoria. They took 80 porters with them on their march into the Eldama Ravine, to mount Sirgoit and Elgeyo forest. Burns relates several close calls with leopards and lions and recounts bagging zebra, elephant, waterbuck, giraffe, and rhino. Rare. OCLC locates copies only at BL and NLS. Czech Africa p. 47 Original color pictorial wrappers, original 'Wonder Spectacles' (3D glasses) included [Attributes: Soft Cover]
