Frontis in each volume + 14 inserted plates (v1: 6; v2: 3; v3: 3; v4: 2). 12mo. 7-3/8" x 4-7/8" Bit of shelfwear, with board just showing to lower tips. Chipping to cloth at spine ends. Volumes joint cloth just starting top & bottom 1". Penciled pos to preliminary blank. Paper lightly toned, occasional light spotting/foxing. Withal, a respectable Very Good set of this rare US edition. Original publisher's brown cloth binding, with gilt stamped spine lettering & graphic, and boards stamped in blind. Pale peach colored eps. "D. S. Pillsbury" ticket to each front paste-down 1st US book edition, 2nd issue (Edgar & Vail, p. 29n [stating 'not seen']; Gimbel A153; Smith 14, p. 408).
