Printed for James Smith, London, 1822. First Smith edition. 15 engraved plates. Pp. [i]-lx, [1]-383, [1, ad]. 1 vols. 8vo. Straight Grain Red Morocco. Sometimes referred to as the Gosden edition. Due to the Gosden imprint on the plates, it was believed to have been published at the expense of the famous sporting bookbinder. Our copy is the size of Coigney's copy f, but compares to copy b. Coigney 22 Full contemporary straight-grained crimson morocco, triple gilt fillet borders outside 5 gilt fillet borders with large leafy cornerpieces, spine in six compartments with five decorated by gilt designs of a rose, leaves, and other tools, gilt turn-ins, a.e.g. Joints repaired, some minor rubbing to extremities, one plate foxed, else very good 15 engraved plates.
