Folds as issued This impressive thematic map of New York City designed by Richard Edes Harrison is incredibly detailed and rich with data, featuring all five boroughs of New York, as well as a larger scale inset of the lower half of Manhattan. The unique compass rose features a small scale map of the entire metropolitan area. In the bottom left corner, another inset shows the comparative population of the five boroughs during the day and at night. Color coding reflects land use - showing distinct residential properties, businesses, industrial use, cemeteries, parks and parkways, airports, public and private institutions, and federal property. The inset of Manhattan distinguishes properties assessed above $5,000,000 and their use. There are several references to the New York World's Fair, which was open during the time of this map's publication. Alongside the map's scale, Harrison illustrates several buildings and natural features with their respective elevations, to scale. In very good condition. Minor toning along folds, barely noticeable. This map was based on a series of maps produced as an Emergency Relief Project in 1935 by Bernard S. Deutsch, for the City Planning Commission. Additional materials used include "Existing Streets 1935", from which Harrison reproduced the street grid, and which was based on the 1933 Board of Apportionment Map by Herman Smith.
