PEAKE, Mervyn
The Gormenghast Trilogy: Titus Groan (1946); Gormenghast (1950), and Titus Alone (1959)
London: Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1946, 1950 & 1959. London: Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1946.Three volumes, all first editions (1946, 1950, 1959). Octavos. Cloth covered hard boards, with original dust jackets. Titus Groan is in the first state jacket with no reviews to the front flap. All jackets unclipped (15s., 15s., 21s.). Titus Groan is in Very Good Plus condition with glue residue from a removed bookplate to front pastedown, in a similarly Very good Plus jacket which is a bit worn to spine ends; Gormenghast has offset browning to free end papers, otherwise Near Fine in a Near Fine jacket; Titus Alone is Fine in a Near Fine jacket which has a little wear at spine ends. The spines of all three jackets are bright and not browned as often found. Overall an excellent set of a landmark in 20th century fantasy writing, and importantly with the first volume in the desirable first state jacket.
