Orig. black morocco spine over dark blue cloth. A very attractive copy. This copy inscribed at the top of the title page, in 1911 "for the Lady Burghelere from the Editor & Translator E. A. Wallis Budge." Part of the series "Anecdota Oxoniensia," this volume being "Semitic Series Vol.1 - Part II." Budge (1857-1934) was the most notable English specialist on the Antient Near East in his day. THE BOOK OF THE BEE, published when he was 29, is his first scholarly work on ancient Syriac texts. Presentation copies of his books are scarce. The auction records (Rarebookhub) show 566 records of Budge titles sold, but only 6 records for inscribed copies. [Attributes: Signed Copy]
