Original quarter black cloth, blue boards, gold title labels on front cover and spine. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION. Presentation copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper: "For John / Amitiés / Countee." The recipient was John Trounstine, a friend from Cullen's days at Harvard, and New York literary agent who at various points represented Arna Bontemps, Erskine Caldwell, Langston Hughes, Dorothy West, and Richard Wright.
