The Great McGinty [Down Went McGinty] (Original screenplay for the 1940 film)
Hollywood: Paramount Pictures, 1939. Revised Draft script for the 1940 film, "The Great McGinty," here under the working title, "Down Went McGinty." Carbon mimeograph copy, likely for use in Paramount's studio files. Brief annotations throughout in holograph pencil, with a few typeovers. More importantly, he was allowed to continue as a writer-director, with a magnificent career that included one classic after another, including "Sullivan's Travels," "The Lady Eve," "Unfaithfully Yours," "The Palm Beach Story," and "Hail the Conquering Hero." Self wrappers, dated 10/3/39, noted in sequences throughout (Sequence A, Sequence B, Sequence F, etc.). Title page integral with front wrapper, with a credit for Preston Sturges. 161 leaves, with last page of text numbered J-7 (Sequence J, Page 7).
