Peter Soyer Beagle (b. 1939) began writing while in high school, and his first novel, "A Fine and Private Place" was published when he was only nineteen. He would go on to be awarded the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement (2011) and was named Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master in 2018. This work, "The Last Unicorn", has sold more than five million copies in at least twenty languages, and was ranked number five in "All-Time Best Fantasy Novels" in 1987 by Locus Magazine. In a review written in 2018, "The Atlantic" compares it to Tolkien's LOTR thus: "[a]fter all these years, 'The Last Unicorn' still feels relevant.
