Folio; VG; bound in publisher's original full elaborately embossed calf over wooden boards, beveled edges; all edges gilt; mild wear and rubbing primarily to head and tail of spine, corners; printed on 53 beautiful chromolithographic leaves on heavy cream stock in three reds, three blues, gold and black, each page featuring different borders; tissue-guards between about half the leaves; heavy; TP consignment; shelved above mythology. '"Relievo" bindings, made of heavily molded and embossed leather left to its natural color, are usually associated with the English designer Owen Jones....Considered to be Owen Jones' greatest work of the 1860s, this printed illumination of the Old Testament's Book of Psalms is commonly known as the Victoria Psalter due to its dedication to Queen Victoria. Extremely popular in its time, this work was represented by a wood engraving in the Art Journal Illustrated Catalogue of the International Exhibition of 1862.
