Several leaves dogeared, a few spots of foxing. Map with a few small closed tears at folds. Contemporary ownership inscription on titlepage, a few marginal pencil annotations. Very good. Mullan's narrative includes a day-by-day itinerary during a journey of forty-seven days from Walla Walla to Fort Benton, with a general description of the route. Wheat provides an exhaustive description of the "General Map of the North Pacific States and Territories Belonging to the United States and of British Columbia...," which he calls "very fine" and reproduces as the frontispiece of the fifth volume of MAPPING THE TRANSMISSISSIPPI WEST.
