London: Laurie & Whittle, 1800. Four sheets, each c.456 x 500mm, total if joined 925 x 1000mm. Trimmed for joining, a few minor repairs. A sea chart of the south east coast of England from Aldborough Bay in Suffolk south to South Forland in Kent, and up the Thames to Canvey Island. An inset completes the route to London Bridge. As well as noting depths and sandbanks, the chart also marks prominent landmarks as aids to navigation. With John Stephenson, George Burns compiled 'The Channel Pilot', a book of detailed charts for navigating the English Channel and the Thames. This chart, published during the French Revolutionary Wars, is dedicated to Admiral Adam Duncan (1731-1804), hero of the Battle of Camperdown in 1797.
