Berkeley, California: Quinto Sol Publications, Inc., 1972. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good+/Good. Martinez, Dennis. Coming-of-age story that has become the most widely read novel in the Chicano literary canon since its publication! We are offering this scarce FIRST EDITION first printing hardcover from June1972, with its original stark black-and-white DJ! By a previously unknown author, this novel won the $1,000 Second annual Premio Quinto Sol national Chicano literary award in 1971. In 249 pages, complemented throughout with pen-and-ink illustrations commissioned especially for this work by Dennis Martinez, like the author, a native New Mexican-turned public school teacher. The book has black cloth-over-boards with gilt lettering to spine. Condition is VG+, marred only by 1) foxing to outside fore edge, 2) heavily bumped lower outer corner of front board. Otherwise, looks & feels nearly new, just without that crispness! Completely clean, binding straight & strong, pages creamy white. NO writing/underlining/highlighting; NOT ex-lib or BCE. The unclipped DJ is downgraded to only Good due to heavy edgewear along top & fore edge of front cover, lesser wear & chips elsewhere. Protected in new mylar cover. Please see our photos--they show the Exact book you will receive from us, never "stock" images! Description & photos copyright Gargoyle Books 2020. Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); Weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
