The Sword in the Stone. The first volume of the author's celebrated Arthurian tetralogy.
Collins, London, 1938. First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 338pp. Black cloth lettered in white at the spine. With chapter header and footer decorations and a splendid dust wrapper design by the author. Spine ends lightly bruised and with a little spotting to the top edge, occasionally encroaching a fraction to the upper margins of the text leaves, and just a hint more spotting to the fore edge and to two or three preliminary leaves. Some light uneven browning to the free endpapers. A very good copy in price-clipped dust wrapper, nicked at the spine ends and corner tips with just a little loss (impacting 'The' in the title and the publisher's imprint), and with a little wear to the natural folds and a three-inch tear to the spine panel-rear panel joint, but still more than respectable. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]
