Macmillan and Co., Limited, Boston, 1900. Both are very good books. Green cloth covered boards with gilt lettering and ruling on spines; similar ruling and author's initials stamped in gilt on the front panels, blind-stamped ruling at upper and lower edges on back boards. Vol. I lists 89 illustrations, including fold-out tinted map. Vol. II lists 25 illustrations. Spines are sunned. Edges at head and tail of board spine are creased and scuffed, and with several small vertical tears, not yet fraying. Fore-edge corners tips are scuffed but not rubbed through. Front board of Vol II has a tiny bump near the center of upper and lower edges. External page edges are age-darkened/soiled, with several small stains and with some light foxing. Text pages have some foxing in the margins, more so around illustrations. Vol II is cracked at pp. 96-97. Text blocks are sound.
