Catalogue des Tableaux, Estampes, et autres Articles curieux, composant le Cabinet d'un Artiste... La Vente s'en fera publiquement...les mardi 14 et mercredi 15 juin 1814..
1814. 1 p.l., 18 pp. Small 8vo (201 x 132 mm.), cont. pink wrappers (defective), stitched. Paris: Delaroche & Gendron, 1814.A rare sale catalogue, fully annotated in a contemporary hand with prices and most buyers' names, issued by the dealer-expert Delaroche (act. 1795-1821). Father of the great history painter Paul Delaroche (1797-1856), Hypolite was one of the more prominent vendors of paintings in Paris at the turn of the century. Delaroche frequently collaborated with Paillet on important sales like those of Robit (1801), van Eyl Sluyter (1802), and Prince Giustiniani (1808/12). His final sale, probably consisting of stock, was held in December 1821 (Lugt 10140).This catalogue describes 64 lots of paintings, prints, and curiosities. The Getty Provenance Index notes that an inscription on the British Library copy suggests that some of the items in this auction belonged to "Drolling, Landon, Rochu et autres." Five of Drolling's pictures and three of Landon's are listed in the present catalogue, possibly meaning the artists consigned unsold pieces of theirs to Delaroche. The contemporary pencil annotations show that other dealers, Lafontaine, Billaudel, and Vigny, were active at this sale.Nice copy; the wrappers are worn, but internally fine, with interesting annotations. With the stamp of the Bibliothèque Heim on the verso of the title-page.❧ Lugt 8537.
