The portraits include Benjamin West, George Vertue, Sir Anthony Van Dyck, Ezra Stiles, Titian, Sir Joshua Reynolds, E. Malone (engraved by Bartolozzi after Reynolds), John Hancock (engraved by Longacre after Copley), Samuel Johnson (engraved by Kelly after Reynolds), Robert Fulton, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Charles Brockden Brown, Jean Antoine Houdon, Angelica Kaufmann, and John J. Audubon.The miscellaneous illustrations include Jacob Blessing the Sons of Joseph engraved by Rogers after B. West, The Last Supper after West, General View of the Falls of Niagara, Military School, West Point, N. Y., Scenery on Connecticut River, Harvard University, and Ticonderoga.The engravings include lithographs, copperplates, stipple and line engravings, mezzotints and steel engravings. There are three fine original watercolor portraits by David McNeely Stauffer. David McNeely Stauffer (1845-1913) was an American civil engineer, editor, artist, and collector. He worked for several railroads including the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad until 1876 when he went into private practice. In addition to collecting autographs and illustrations, he designed book plates and did pen and ink drawings.
