This historically valuable and scarce edition includes documentation from family records and state archives. "Captured by Senecas, in Pennsylvania, 1778; rescued by Sullivan's army in 1779" (Howes). "The following narrative of Luke Swetland, copied from an original pamphlet, the only one known to the writer, is reprinted for distribution among his kinsman [sic], merely from motives of family interest" (Preface). Only the Yale copy survives of the original edition published in Hartford in the 1780s. The present example of the privately-printed 1875 edition, is from the famed library of Frank T.
