The Seats of the Nobility and Gentry in a Collection of the most Interesting and Picturesque Views.
W.Watts, Chelsea, 1779. Oblong 4to (11 1/2 x 8 1/2in., 290 x 215mm) finely bound in contemporary full dark blue straight-grain morocco, covers gilt ruled with Greek key patterns, inner edge with foliate roll, marbled end-papers, backstrip extra gilt in fine geometric patterns, all edges gilt, a little rubbed at extremities, but exceptionaly nice. A scattering of almost invisible worm holes exclusively to the morocco only of the top board, nowhere else. Engraved title, pp 4 (subscribers), 84 copper plates engraved by Watts after eminent artists (Sandby - Watt's teacher - Malton, Hearne etc.,) each with leaf of text, index/errata leaf. The fresh and crisp plates on particularly heavy paper, with good dark impressions, are dated 1779 to 1786. An altogether superior copy. Fine houses in England and Wales.
