New York: Gabriel Wells, 1925. Limited ed. Leather_bound. Fine. Twelve volumes, one of 525 numbered sets only of the "Large Paper Edition". This set handsomely bound in three quarter brick colored morocco lined in gilt and with spines lettered and decorated in gilt; top edge gilt; pale green patterned endpapers; title pages printed in light blue and black. A fine, bright, clean set, occasional insignificant wear at the the outer tip edges and spine ends. Interiors clean and bright throughout. A truly lovely and highly sought after Wilde sets, produced by Gabriel Wells, the noted New York bookseller, author and historian. Wells (1861-1946) became one of the top antiquarian booksellers on both sides of the Atlantic during the inter-war years He bought an imcomplete Gutenberg Bible in 1920 and sold individual leaves to collectors and institutions, and later bought, in 1928, the business of Henry Southren in London, that had been in the buisness since 1760. Wells also published a but important number of limited sets and individual titles such as this Wilde collection, a definitive edition of Twain, Brinsley's "School for Scandal" and others.
