Profusely extra-Illustrated with approximately 120 finely engraved plates, gravure plates, and other illustrations, some coloured by hand, all depicting personages and places relative to the very beginnings of the American colonies and the subsequent American Revolution. An excellent collection of historically significant engravings, mostly from English and Continental presses, all quite refined and executed very skillfully. 8vo, beautifully bound by Root & Son, London in fine three-quarter dark-emerald green morocco, the spines with raised bands gilt stopped and tooled at the borders, the compartments with designs bordered by three gilt fillet lines creating panels surrounding elaborate inner tooling and central gilt devices, two compartments lettered in gilt with decorated gilt frames, top edge gilt, marbled end-leaves. x, [2], 238; 239-499 pp. interleaved with the very many engraved illustrations. A fine set indeed, the bindings in excellent condition with nary a fault to describe, the hinges sound and the text-blocks and plates clean throughout. An excellent copy of this respected work.
