An ASSOCIATION COPY; Journalist and author Van Allen Bradley's copy, with his review on the rear panel of volume two dust jacket, with publisher's review slip and a form letter from the publisher stating: "Recently, Bennett Cerf asked Shelby Foote if he would care to undertake the project and discovered that precisely such a book had been Shelby's dream child for twenty years; that ever since boyhood he had been planning it and collecting material. The result of their meeting will be a A SHORT HISTORY OF THE CIVIL WAR running to about 200,000 words and scheduled for publication sometime in 1956. Random House believes it will be a highspot, first in its Lifetime Library series and, some years later, in the Modern Library." With "Van Allen Bradley's copy" written in pencil in upper margin.
