PICTURESQUE ROUND GAME OF THE PRODUCE AND MANUFACTURES OF THE COUNTIES OF ENGLAND AND WALES
Edward Wallis, London. Scarce educational game of commerce from the 1830s, played on a beautifully detailed and hand-colored map of the British Isles. An exceptional attractive copy of this early 19th-century game of commerce for multiple players. With Wallis's Explanation book, laying out the rules of gameplay, and entries for each of the 151 geographical stations of the board with descriptions to be read when a player arrives on that spot: from the Isle of Man with its alleged Barnacle Geese; to Holy Island (Durham), where once were monks but now dwell "a much more useful animal - rabbits"; to Cumberland, "formerly infested with Bears." The object is to reach No. 151: "London. The Game." In unusually fine condition. 26'' x 20''. Lithographed hand-colored 6'' x 5'' paper sections mounted on linen. Folded and housed in 7'' x 5'' gilt-stamped green cloth slipcase. With 7'' x 4'' pamphlet, bound in yellow printed wrappers, titled: Explanation to the Picturesque Round Game of the Produce and manufactures of the Counties of England and Wales. 20 pages.
