King Kong
New York: Grosset and Dunlap, 1932. King Kong Novelization by Delos Lovelace Conceived by Edgar Wallace and Merian C. Cooper First Edition First printing of Delos Lovelace's novelization of the classic monster story. In December of 1932, just as the film King Kong was finishing production, Merian Cooper asked his friend Delos Lovelace to adapt the film's screenplay into a novelization. The book was published later that month, on December 27, just over two months prior to the film's premier and served as one of just two parts of its advance marketing campaign (the other being a collection of sheet music from the score) . The book would go on to see numerous reprints, further bolstering Kong's status as a cultural phenomenon. Housed in a facsimile dust jacket for presentation. New York: Grosset and Dunlap, 1932. Publisher's original green cloth stamped in dark brown, photographic endpapers with stills from the film; pp. [vi], 249, [1]. A fair to good copy. Some general grubbiness to boards and edge of text block with a stain to the front board, shelfwear and rubbing to boards with fraying at the spine tips, hinges sprung but still holding, owner's writing to the page across from the half-title, a few finger smudges to pages, else internally clean.
