Père Castor; Lalouve [Wolff, Kate]; [Perrault, Charles]
Flammarion, Paris, 1936. Complete shadow theater book for dramatizing two Perrault fairy tales, from the acclaimed children's book series with a Modernist point of view. Everything a child would need to perform their own shadow theater is included here. The presentations consist of two Perrault fairy tales: CENDRILLON (Cinderella) and LA BELLE AU BOIS DORMANT (Sleeping Beauty). Decorations and costumes are by Lalouve, the artist name of Kate Wolff. Wolff was a Jewish artist forced to leave Germany in 1933. She came to Paris and began to illustrate for Père Castor, hiding her Jewish origins and changing her name to Lalouve. This is the second Shadow Theater published by Père Castor. A rare and wonderful Père Castor item. 11.25'' 13''. Original orange pictorial wrapper. 8 sheets of blue cardboard containing 40 cut-outs of figures and costumes to be mounted on handles, with cover as potential backdrop and an additional piece in the rear: complete and unused. Text in French. Some light cover soil. [Attributes: First Edition]
