Gaze, Harold
Harper Brothers, New York, 1924. First American edition of the marvelous fantasy adventure by the New Zealander artist. The story is about a little girl who meets all manner of strange gnomes, fairies and creatures after she goes to sleep at night. Except for a short stint at art school in London, Gaze was largely a self-taught artist. Eventually he moved to Pasadena, where he did some work for the Disney Studio. Gaze's work will likely appeal to those who appreciate Rackham and Outhwaite. Scarce in dust jacket. 9'' x 7''. Original blue gilt-stamped pictorial cloth. (1924 B-Y.) Illustrated by Gaze with 12 beautiful color plates plus many full- and partial-page fanciful line illustrations. 338 pages. Last illustration slightly out of register. Jacket chipped at spine ends. Fine in very good minus jacket. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]
