CHURCHILL, [Sir] Winston Spencer (1874-1965).
The Second World War.
London: Cassell and Co., 1948-1954. [Military history] FIRST EDITIONS. Six volumes. Octavo (22 x 15 x 27cm), pp.xv; 640; pp.xvii; 684; pp.x; 818; pp.xviii; 917; pp.xviii; 673; pp.xviii; 716. With numerous maps and plans, some folding. Publisher's black cloth lettered in gilt to spine; top edges pink, with grey monogrammed endpapers. Each volume with the typographic grey dust-jackets matching the endpapers, priced between 25 and 30s. An exceptional set, now very hard to find in fine or near fine condition. Some token handling and a few minor marks to bindings. Edges a little toned and spotted, with a light tobacco scent throughout. Very light spotting and a little rubbing to edges of jacket to volume I, also price-clipped, with some fading to the pink top edge. Volume II a little toned to jacket spine, otherwise very crisp. Volumes III, IV, V and VI just a little bruised to jacket edges, with some light spotting to flaps and reverse. Uniformly bright titles to notoriously fadable spine, with a sense of crispness to all volumes. Near fine. 'This is not history; this is my case.' The author's most famous work continuing on from his earlier history of the First World War, 'The World Crisis'. The two together form, in Churchill's opinion, a comprehensive history of a second Thirty Years War. [Attributes: First Edition]
Bookseller: Adrian Harrington [UNITED KINGDOM]
