Half modern calf over marbled boards; spine with four raised bands and red morocco spine label; matching silk ribbon marker.On November 19, 1794 representatives of the United States and Great Britain signed Jays Treaty, which sought to settle outstanding issues between the two countries that had been left unresolved since American independence. A copy of the treaty, with Jays commentary, arrived in Philadelphia on March 7, 1795. Jay's Treaty passed the Senate on June 24, 1795, at which time it was made public. President Washington signed the treaty August 18, 1795, with the present November publication (referred to by Carey as a "second edition") actually an early second issue of the treaty, with the first issue being published by Henry Tuckniss in Philadelphia on August 12th.As part of Jay's treaty, Britain agreed to evacuate the Northwest Territory (the area that became the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and a portion of Minnesota) by June 1, 1796; it also agreed to compensate for its attacks against American shipping and end its discrimination against American commerce; finally it granted the U.S. trading privileges in England and the British East Indies.The book includes in its "copious appendix" a copy of the U.S. Constitution; a "Vindication of the Treaty" by Curtius (i.e. Noah Webster and jurist James Kent); "Features of Mr. Jay's treaty", by Alexander James Dallas; and much more.A very g … [Click Below for Full Description]
