Andr, R.
COLONEL BOGEY'S SKETCH BOOK
London: Longmans, Green, & Co, 1897. Very good plus. First edition of this tongue-in-cheek history of golf, beginning with the prehistoric Golfosaurian, moving onto the missing "link" Golfolinkius Anthropomorphus, and so on. Filled with humorous parodies about golf (e.g. "A Lay of Link Lunacy"), humanized golf clubs, and depictions of golfing animals, including the Putting Pachyderm. The illustrations throughout the text are detailed and clever. Andr is best known for his children's book illustrations, but he was also an avid golfer, and one of the founders of the West Herts Golf Club. A wonderful and rare golf book. 8.5'' x 11''. Original quarter cloth, paper pictorial boards. 44 pages. Covers a little scratched, hinges neatly strengthened, some light marginal soiling to text.
Bookseller: Type Punch Matrix [United States]
