Dalí, Salvador
New York: Harry N. Abrams, Inc, 1968. Hard Cover. First Edition. Near Fine / Dust Jacket Included. Profusely illustrated with Dalí's works in color and black and white throughout. Edited by Max Gerard and translated by Eleanor R. Morse. First edition in English, first printing. Signed by Dalí in full with a drawing of an angel and a bow and arrow, the arrow creating an additional "Dalí" signature continuing to the title page. Original publisher's pictorial cream cloth, pictorial gilt dust jacket with Dalí "The Persistence of Time" to the front panel. An excellent copy in the dust jacket with some light wear and rubbing to the corners, scattered scuff to rear panel, else fine. A beautiful collection of Dali's work, including: 271 illustrations, 80 plates in full color and 23 intoned gravure. Dalí was published in English the same year as the French edition, though no priority has been established. Unique to this copy is Dalí's drawn angel to the front endpaper. Dalí was fascinated by angels, he often pictures his wife and muse, Gala, as winged beings. Angels also appeared in the surrealists' sculptures, most notably his "The Surrealist Angel". [Attributes: First Edition; In Dust Jacket]
