Six leaves: elaborate engraved allegorical title-page with magnificent contemporary hand-colour in full, dedication to Octavius Pallavinci, preface; “Terrae Promissionis…” pages numbered 1-286; 14 leaves: catalogue and index (one or two closed marginal tears); fine folding panorama of the Promised Land (1200 by 350mm) on two sheets, large folding plan of Jerusalem (540 by 750mm) on two sheets (lower margin extended, separations at folds strengthened on verso with Japanese tissue) and 10 double-page and or folding maps of the lands of the Twelve Tribes, all with magnificent contemporary hand-colour in full. Seventeenth century blind panelled calf, each cover decorated with gilt armorial stamp (rebacked to style, board edges strengthened). Collation: *6, A-I4, K-T4, V4, X-Z4, Aa-Ii4, Kk-Pp4, Qq6. An exceptional example of the first edition of Adrichom’s description of the Holy Land, rarely found with the iconic plates in contemporary hand-colour, including the impressive and important panorama of the Promised Land: ‘Situs terrae promissionis ss bibliorum intelligentiam exacte aperiens…’ extending to four feet in length; and a large and detailed plan ‘Jerusalem et suburbia eius…’, which Nebenzahl describes as the “most dramatic and important of the sixteenth century”.
