Billings, MT, 1989. Fine. Limited signed edition, #38 of 100. Complete set of 8" x 10" (20.5 x 25.5 cm) full color prints of the cartoons Lynde created for the Billing Gazette's "Trail Duster" section to promote the Great Montana Centennial Cattle Drive of 1989. There are 24 prints, individually signed and numbered, housed in a brown cardstock folder with gilt title and steer head image. The prints are in fine condition. The cardstock folder is near fine, with minor creasing and sun fading at top edge. The Great Montana Centennial Cattle Drive was the idea of Lynde, fellow cartoonist Barry McWilliams and rancher Mary Ellen Doty. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Montana's statehood, 2,812 cattle, 208 covered wagons, 3,337 horses and 2,581 people participated in a 6-day, 60-mile cattle drive from Roundup to Billings. The cartoons created by Lynde depict humorous scenes of adventures and mishaps along the way. Lynde was the creator of the highly acclaimed, internationally syndicated comic strips "Rick O'Shay," "Grass Roots" and "Latigo," as well as the Spur Award-winning author of eight Western novels featuring Merlin Fanshaw, and a work of historical fiction, Vigilante Moon. He is the recipient of the Inkpot Award for achievement in the comic arts, the Montana Governor's Award for the Arts, and was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2012. [Attributes: Signed Copy]
