Bears the bookplate of Carl Van Vechten, the American writer and artistic photographer who was a patron of the Harlem Renaissance and the literary executor of Gertrude Stein. Several creases and tiny chips to covers, chiefly in the area of the perforations at head and tail of spine. A small strip of clear adhesive tape applied to upper corner, rear cover.
