Original letters and memoirs written by Lord Bacon during the reign of King James I. Scarce copy for sale, many in Libraries. With a portrait frontispiece which is a little tightly cropped at the top. lxx, 302pp, [2 Errata and Book Advertisements]. Approximately 8 ½ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gilt titles, 5 raised gilt edged bands separating 6 compartments, 4 of which have a blind tooled decoration, some wear to the top. Joints good condition gently rubbed. Corners good condition gently bumped and worn. Boards good condition rebound in full black calf leather binding, blind tooled lined borders to both, edges are bevelled. Page edges good condition top edge slightly darkened, all speckled with some foxing. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition sound. Paste downs good condition plain. End papers good condition plain. Title good condition red and black text, lightly tanned with some foxing. Pages good condition there is a hand written note in a contemporary hand, in the margin of page xviii, lightly tanned with minor foxing throughout. Binding good condition solid.
