Ridley, Henry N.
The Dispersal of Plants Throughout the World
Ashford, Kent, UK: L. Reeve & Co Ltd, 1930. 764 p. Hardcover, no dust jacket, as issued-full mahogany buckram over boards with gold lettering stamped on spine and front. Sewn binding. xx + 744 pages, with 22 plates of illustrations (one in color), index, and bibliography. 1st Edition, 1st Printing. CONDITION: NEAR FINE, binding square and tight, pages bright and unmarked, save for former owner's name stamp and subsequent gift inscription in ink below on ffep; light edge wear and corner wear and rubbing to boards. COLLECTIBLE: This copy belonged to Edwin Way Teale (June 2, 1899 October 18, 1980) an American naturalist, photographer, and writer; it bears his stamp on the ffep that reads "EDWIN WAY TEALE TRAIL WOOD HAMPTON, CT. 06247". Below the stamp is a note in blue ink written by Teale's widow, Nellie Imogene Donovan, that reads "Presented to Ann Haymond Zwinger-1-26-1987 from her friend Nellie Teale". Edwin Way Teale died in 1980 while working with author Ann Zwinger on the book A Conscious Stillness: Two Naturalists on Thoreau's Rivers. Teale's portion of the book was nearly complete at the time of his death, and he was included as co-author (with Ann Zwinger) when the book was published in 1982. Thus, this fine copy of a rare and important book on plant dispersal is associated with two eminent American naturalist writers. >Guaranteed secure packaging, free tracking, and no-hassle return policy.
