This episode is included in Paulding's Journal of a Cruise of the United States Schooner Dolphin...." (Norman C. Delaney in the ANB) Previous owner name on the title page of George R. Brush; he served as an M.D. U.S. Navy; a surgeon & medical inspector, from 1861-1894 (his death) his naval duties took him to many locations around the world, including the Pacific. Howes P- 131. Approx. 4" x 6" size; bound in marbled paper covered boards, black leather corners & spine; gilt spine titles. Top board detached; edge, tips wear to the binding, dried; map with closed tear; title with a short closed tear at the lower gutter; some spotting and foxing to map, title and more so to the preliminary and ending signatures; in good condition..
