The Lady of the Lake Manuscript Copy.
1810. Hand written manuscript of the Eighth Edition of The Lady of the Lake in beautiful copper plate handwriting. Not thought to be in Scott s hand. Inside the front cover to the paste down is a label stating: The original covers of this volume carried the inscription: - From Ellen Parkhurst to Miss Radie, 1817 N.B. The eighth edition of Lady of the Lake was published in 1810. [as indeed was the first right through to the eighth so quite feasible that hand written proof manuscripts were written, unless this is in his hand?]. Pages written in ink with a lined edge to each page. On the page opposite the content is inscribed: To the Most Noble John James Marquis of Abercorn &c &c &c this Poem is inscribed by the Author . The paper is water marked with Britannia and dated 1805 and 1808 also annotated in pencil to the front paste down. 290 pages of handwritten text.   Condition Report Externally Spine very good condition gilt titles and raised bands. Joints very good condition minor wear. Corners very good condition worn and bumped. Boards very good condition marbled. Page edges good condition. See above and photos. Internally Hinges very good condition solid. Paste downs very good condition foxing. End papers good condition foxing. Title good condition. Pages good condition foxing. Binding good condition.
