The Marsh Arabs
London: Longmans, 1964. First edition. 8vo. (xvi), 242 pp. Publisher's green cloth, gilt lettered to the spine, dust jacket, price clipped, a prior owner's name inscribed on the front free endpaper, signed and dated ("18. 11. 2000") by the author on the title page. Frontispiece and 109 photographic illustrations. The lamination to the jacket slightly bubbled in places, a little light wear to the edges, very good. A classic work on the now displaced peoples of the marshes of Iraq, where the Tigris and Euphrates meet. Thesiger spent five months in neighbouring Iran in the immediate aftermath of the publication of this book, using his contacts in the British Embassy in order to get greater access to the country than would otherwise have been allowed to a foreigner. [Attributes: First Edition]
