Swift, Jonathan & Jones, David (Illus.)
Travels Into Several Remote Nations Of The World (Gulliver's Travels)
UK: The Golden Cockerel Press, 1925. A 2 Volumes set as issued. The First UK printing published by The Golden Cockerel Press in 1925. The BOOKS are in near Fine condition with the publisher's original bindings. Number '248' of only 480 copies issued. Original white cloth and black paper boards. A hint of darkening to the white cloth with some very superficial surface abrasion to the black paper, otherwise in lovely condition. Free from inscriptions and erasures. A hint of toning to the page edges. Housed within a custom chemise and slipcase with a leather label titled in gilt. Forty two wood engravings and twenty seven woodcut initials by David Jones, many of which are hand coloured. This was the first of what would be many distinctive illustrative commissions Jones undertook for the Press. 'The Studio' gave the publication a glowing review : ' A book from the Golden Cockerel Press is a thing that engages the sense of both sight and touch. Both in texture and general appearance of paper and typography, it is a delight, and a great classic could appear under no better auspices'. An extremely scarce set with such attributes.
