FIRST EDITION 1816, LIMITED TO 250 COPIES. 4to, approximately 270 x 215 mm, 11 x 8½ inches, title page printed red and black, 19 plates, 11 engraved plates and eight hand coloured woodcuts, numerous woodcuts in the text, some on india paper, historiated initials, 1 attractive headpiece incorporating playing cards, pages: XVI, 373, [3], including index, plate list and errata page, bound in full straight-grained black morocco, quintuple gilt fillet border to covers with a decorative gilt lozenge to the middle of each side, raised gilt bands to spine, 5 compartments with gilt decoration imitating the covers, gilt title, all edges gilt, maroon endpapers, double gilt rule to inner dentelles. Very slight rub to head of spine and corners, spine gilt a touch dull, very light rubbing to covers, armorial bookplate to front pastedown and Jaime Ortiz-Patino's small modern bookplate to front endpaper, very small split to front inner paper hinge, pale offsetting to title page from frontispiece, otherwise a very good clean tight copy.
