Collection of the official Acts passed during the First Session of the First Congress of the United States, March 4, 1789.. Octavo, [x], [3]-327pp, [93pp blank]. Full sheepskin, title in gilt on spine over red morocco, decorative gilt bands. Both hinges reinforced with Japanese tissue paper binding. Previous ownership inscription on front free end paper, blind stamp at top edge of title page. No extraneous marks, clean text throughout, some age-toning as expected. (Sabin 15494) (Howes A35) A scarce edition from Hartford, detailing the history of the First Congress of the United States. (Howes A35). This work includes the Acts of all three sessions of the First Congress, a copy of the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, the United States Constitution and the first amendments to the Bill of Rights, through March 3rd, 1791. The amendments to the Bill of Rights had not been ratified at this printing. Unlike other copies printed in Hartford in 1791, which contain 486 pages, this copy does not include acts approved during the first session of the Second Congress (Evans 23843).
