J. D. Salinger
The Catcher in the Rye
Little, Brown and Company, 1951. First printing of Salinger's debut novel and an enduring classic of twentieth century literature. Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1951. A very good copy in a very good or slightly better dust jacket. Binding is sturdy, light offsetting to endpapers. The gilt titling to the spine has been rubbed off, as is typical. Rubbing and foxing to edges of textblock, with the top edge dust soiled and darkened. Scattered light foxing internally, else clean. The unclipped dust jacket is priced at $3.00 with Lotti Jacobi's photo of Salinger to the back panel, head slightly cropped, as called for in the first state, yet the $3.00 price positioned slightly to the right of the 'R' in Salinger on the front flap, hence this is most likely a second state jacket trimmed to fit. Jacket shows light edgewear, with minute loss at the spine crown and minor rubbing at the joints. Faint line through a portion of the spine, tanning to spine and back panel. A very presentable copy, protected in archival mylar. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]
