Original maroon wavy-grained cloth, spines lettered and ruled in gilt, thick border stamped in blind to boards, decorative vine-patterned endpapers to vol. III, plain endpapers to vol. IV. Complete with numerous steel engravings with tissue guards to vol. III, the Phebe A. Hanaford plate opposite p. 337 supplied; copperplate and photogravure engravings to vol. IV; both with tissue-guarded frontispieces. Light shelfwear to both vols. Vol. III: two minor marks to spine, binding a little shaken with front board tender (not affecting inner hinge), top edge of book block foxed, bottom corner of pp. 17-18 creased. Vol. IV: two small holes to front joint, a couple of marks to top edge of book block. In all an excellent set, the contents crisp and clean. First editions, presentation copies of volumes III and IV of the "bible" of the women's suffrage campaign, the only two volumes published by Anthony herself; inscribed in each volume by Anthony on the occasion of her 85th birthday to her cousin Joshua. Both are inscribed on initial blanks, "To Joshua Anthony. Ushers - N.Y. From his cousin Susan B. Anthony. Rochester - N.Y. Feb. 15. 1905"; volume four bears the additional note, "This is my 85th birthday - It will be ten more years if I reach the age of my - of our - grandfather Anthony - Humphrey."
